Benefits
It is a combination of naturally occuring products, so offers a valid alternative to 'drug-based' treatments.
Can have an antimicrobial effect on a wide range of potentially pathogenic viruses, bacteria, yeasts and fungi, and protazoa, thus helping to fight illness before it occurs
May help eliminate recurrent infections without the use of antibiotics or steroids; also works well in conjunction with antibiotic treatments
May benefit the animal's skin, eyes, heart and immune system by strengthening the overall nutritional status
May support healing of various conditions affecting the plumage and skin, such as dermatitis or feather picking and improve the general condition of the skin and feathers
Has a high antioxidant content (tocopherol and tocotrienol activity of vitamin E) and high carotenoid content (precursor to vitamin A).
Contains balanced essential fatty acids, especially omega-3 and omega-6.
Is a vegetarian alternative to fish oil that is more stable than flax oil.
Animals love the taste.

The Properties of Monolaurin
A monoglyceride is composed of glycerin with one fatty acid molecule attached. Where two fatty acids attach the resulting compounds are known as diglycerides, with three fatty acids attach they are known as triglycerides. Whilst diglycerides and triglycerides are inactive, monoglycerides have active antimicrobial properties.
Booster contains the monoglyceride monolaurin.
It has long been recognised that lauric acid, a saturated fatty acid found in many natural products particularly coconut oil, palm oil and breast milk, has strong anitviral properties.
According to published research lauric acid is one of the best 'inactivating' fatty acids. Lauric acid itself cannot be taken orally because it is severely irritating, however the monoglyceride of lauric acid, monolaurin - which is present in Booster - can be taken orally without any problems.
Monolaurin is non-toxic, non-irrtating and approved as a direct food additive by the FDA, yet adversely affects harmful bacteria (but not beneficial gut bacteria), yeast, fungi and protozoa in the body, and enveloped viruses.
Fatty acids and monoglycerides produce their killing/inactivating effects by several mechanisms:
An early postulated mechanism was interference of the plasma membrane lipid bilayer. The antiviral action attributed to monolaurin is that of liquefying the structure of the viral envelopes, causing disintegration of the microbial membrane.
More recent studies indicate that one antimicrobial effect in bacteria is related to monolaurin's interference with signal transduction/toxin formation.
Another antimicrobial effect in viruses is due to lauric acid's interference with virus assembly and viral maturation.
A mode of action may be directly on the immune system itself.
Research over the last 30 years has produced an impressive volume of papers listing the antimicrobial effects of monolaurin on a wide range of potentially pathogenic viruses, bacteria, yeasts and fungi, and protozoa. It would appear that monolaurin has no adverse effect on desirable gut bacteria, and only on potentially pathogenic microorganisms. Of greater significance perhaps is that there appears to be very little development of resistance of the organism to the bactericidal effects of these natural antimicrobials.

Uses and testimonials
General - "AVIx Booster and Soother Plus have been a great asset to our practice. I strongly believe these products have had a positive impact on many of our patients such as self-mutilating birds, rodents with bite wounds and dermatitis, and a variety of other conditions." Kevin Wright, DVM, Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital
"Those little bottles (Booster) have been one of the best things to have happened in my practice in the last (few) years." Alessandro Melillo DVM, Rome, Italy
Birds - "The AVIx Booster was used as dietary supplement for a small bird that was experiencing severe feather loss 3 weeks ago and already new, healthy feather growth is returning. I am really glad my veterinarian recommended (it)." Alan Duggie, Arkansas
" The Booster and Bird Builder together appear to have helped many of our stubborn seed-eating patients improve their nutritional status." Kevin Wright, DVM, Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital
Cats - "I found HEALx Booster to be very beneficial. The kittens were very amenable to taking it. Faster weight gain, wonderful feel to the skin - it was a great supplement" Karla, Katteycasa Sphynx Cattery
"I felt it did boost my babies/all my cats. I did find after a few weeks an awesome feel to the skin texture that was not evident before the usage. The cats like it and it is one of the best suplements I have used" Sue G.
Rats - "I use HEALx Booster in rats from colonies with upper respiratory infections (URI). The palatability of the product makes administration easy. the product seems to reduce the incidence of URI" Thomas Bankstahl DVM.
Turtles - "I used the Booster for a 20-year-old ornate box turtle with surprising results. His ugly skin cleared up quickly and I can almost see him smile." Alan Duggie, Arkansas
Hedgehogs (!) - "I (was treating) a little hedgehog with an upper respiratory infection and wheezing. I couldn't get this little guy to take anything (medicinal) orally. (But), he LOVES the HEALx Booster and has been getting several drops daily. He has also been drinking water that I have treated with Baytril. He's doing much better." JC Burcham, DVM

Ingredients
Monoglyceride of an edible fatty acid suspended in certified organic Brazilian dende (red palm fruit) oil.
About the Palm Fruit Oil that is used
The red palm oil is certified organic by QAI, which means no pesticides, preservatives or other contaminants were used in its growth or processing. It is of human-quality consumption standards and is naturally derived using steam and mechanical processes - no chemical solvents are used.
The palm oil used is grown on long established farms in Brazil (in accordance with USDA Certified Organic Standards), and is not harvested in tropical forests in Malaysia, Indonesia or Africa (where the process of palm oil collection is causing environmental damage). The farms used are members of Northern Plains Sustainable Agricultural Society and the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). They are also certified by TransFair as a Fair Trade program, where workers are paid a fair wage.

Directions
Booster is semi-solid at room temperature. To liquefy, float botle in hot (not boiling) water for a few minutes
Mix liquefied Booster with the pet's food according to the amounts listed below. This need not coat all of the food, just sufficient to be sure that the Booster is being ingested. When necessary mix in greater quantities and store for a few days.
Sample dosage amounts:
Rabbits and Guinea Pigs - intially feed 0.02ml (1 drop)/100g body weight and do not exceed 0.1ml (5 drops) per day. Then increase the amount gradually as tolerated.
Birds - Mix 5ml with 454g of the bird's consumable food (i.e. not the shells or rind that may be discarded). Alternatively administer orally 0.02-0.06ml (1 to 3 drops) per 100g bird's body weight daily.
Other animals - Generally 0.02-0.06ml (1 to 3 drops) per 100g animal's body weight daily.
