SOOTHER PLUS CREAM

Dog Case Report: Use of HEALx Soother Plus in a Non-healing Wound of a Whippet*

• A 5-year-old neutered male whippet presented with a leg wound secondary to impact trauma from a car.
• After stabilization in the hospital, the dog received 25 mg of tramadol 3 times daily for 5 days, 500 mg cephalexin twice daily for 14 days and 25 mg deracoxib once daily for 10 days.
• The wound was dehisced, and surgical correction was attempted on the following dates: March 29, April 1 and April 4, 2008.
• On April 1, 34 mg enrofloxacin once daily for 7 days was added to the therapy.
• On April 9 it was decided to leave the wound open because of its continual dehiscence. Cefpodoxime proxetil, 200 mg once daily, was administered as the antibiotic of choice; deracoxib was continued orally and HEALx Soother Plus was used as the exclusive topical medication.
• On May 1 all oral medications were discontinued, and HEALx Soother Plus was applied 3 times daily as the only treatment modality until the final wound healing on July 1, 2008.

Chinchilla Case Report: Use of HEALx Soother Plus in a Non-healing Wound*

A 2-year-old chinchilla presented on May 12 with a 2 x 4 cm ulcerated area extending through the skin and subcutis to the muscle layer in the right inguinal region. Surgery was performed and the tissue was resected, a 3 layer closure with 4-0 PDS was performed and the tissue was submitted for histopathology. The chinchilla was placed on 10 mg/kg enrofloxacin twice daily and meloxicam at 0.2 mg/kg daily. The wound reopened the following day and was cleaned, debrided, and resutured; an Elizabethan collar was also applied. Three days post-surgery, due to decreased stool production, the chinchilla was placed on Cisapride at 0.4 mg/kg and Critical Care as a supplement to the diet. On May 22, the incision partially opened, and had purulent discharge. Trimethoprim-Sulfa was added to the treatment at 30 mg/kg twice daily. On May 23, the wound had completely reopened and the chinchilla was anesthetized.
The wound was debrided and closed and a body wrap was applied. In the evening, the chinchilla had chewed the bandage and reopened the wound. At this time, the owners had elected for humane euthanasia. We offered the owners to admit the chinchilla for a trial with Soother Plus alone on a clinical trial basis. Antibiotics were continued until May 27 when the trial could begin. On May 27 all oral medications were discontinued and Soother Plus was used 4 times daily liberally to entire wound. Due to pain concerns, butorphonal at 0.25 mg/kg was given twice daily until June 5. On June 5, all oral medications were discontinued and Soother Plus was used alone 3 times daily.

Rabbit Case Report: Use of HEALx Soother Plus in a Pododermatitis Case**

A rabbit was found in a dumpster in appalling condition. Its foot pads exhibited severe dermatitis due to poor hygiene and contact with feces and urine. Deep tissues and tendons had been affected, and the prognosis was very poor. The treatment was long and difficult, but without the help of HEALx the rabbit would likely have been euthanized. The rabbit was given enrofloxacin (10 mg/kg IM q24h) for the first 10 days and HEALx Sunshine Factor (0.3 ml PO q24h). HEALx Soother Plus Cream was administered topically to the wounds. After the first 2 weeks, the rabbit was given 10 more days of enrofloxacin (100 mg/L of drinking water) and the HEALx Sunshine Factor (0.3 ml PO every other day) until the wounds had healed. After treatment with Soother Plus and Sunshine Factor, the rabbit’s foot pads are now healed. The combination of HEALx Soother Plus cream and HEALx Sunshine Factor along with good cleaning practices has enabled us to achieve healing in extreme dermatologic cases such as this.

Bird Case Report: Use of AVIx Soother Plus Cream with a Caique with an Ulcerative Wound

A white-bellied caique presented with a non-healing ulcerative wound of 1 year's duration. AVIx Soother Plus was applied twice-daily to the lesion, which completely resolved with topical therapy alone after 28 days of treatment.

SOOTHER SPRAY

Horse Case Report: Use of HEALx Soother Spray in a Bite Wound Case**

A horse was presented with a bite wound on the neck. The wound was cleaned, and HEALx Soother spray was applied before suturing. Soother spray was used on the exposed tissues daily thereafter; no other treatment was given. The horse did not bother the wound, and the sutures remained intact. The owner had no problems spraying the horse with the Soother because the sprayer did not make any sound to startle the animal. The Soother provided analgesia and accelerated the healing. After 3 weeks, there was little evidence of the original injury.

BOOSTER

Use of Booster in the Rehabilitation of an Emaciated Macaw

An emaciated 70-year-old green-winged macaw was given AVIx Booster in conjunction with other therapy. The macaw was maintained using Booster, which kept chronic long-term infections under control. AVIx Soother ointment was applied daily which when combined with physical therapy allowed this bird to not only return to standing but return to gripping and perching.
